Emanuel Pogatetz started his career at the age of 7 at his hometown club SK Sturm Graz, after he also tried to play ice-hockey.
He passed through all the teams at every age group.
Especially his coaches Dietmar Windisch and Alfred Werner had a huge impact on his future career.
07/2000 - 06/2001
At the start of the 2000/2001 season Emanuel Pogatetz moved on a free-transfer from SK Sturm Graz to FC Kaernten.
The Head-Coach of FC Kaernten, Walter Schachner thought the world of Emanuel Pogatetz and supported, developed and encouraged him as much as possible.
Only in his first Season in professional football he was already a regular in the first team.
07/2001 - 08/2002
At the start of the 2001/2002 season Emanuel Pogatetz moved from FC Kaernten to Bayer 04 Leverkusen.
Because of his strong performances for FC Kaernten and the Austrian Under 21 National Team Emanuel Pogatetz attracted a lot of interest from several Top-Clubs across Europe.
He was also making his debut for the Austrian National Team during this time.
Bayer 04 Leverkusen wanted Emanuel Pogatetz to play more regular first-team football and therefor send him on loan to the Swiss Super League Club FC Aarau (highest division in Switzerland).
At the Swiss Club he established himself straight away as an indisputable regular player of the first team.
He played a vital part in FC Aarau avoiding relegation.
07/2003 - 03/2005
At the start of the 2003/2004 season Bayer 04 Leverkusen sent Emanuel Pogatetz on loan to GAK, back into his hometown Graz.
At the Austrian Bundesliga Team GAK (highest division in Austrian football) Emanuel Pogatetz established himself straight away as an indisputable regular player of the first team.
Because his promoter Walter Schachner recently became head Coach at GAK, Emanuel Pogatetz was very happy when Bayer Leverkusen agreed to send him there on loan for another two years.
In the last Minute of the Russian Winter-Transfer-Window 2005 Emanuel Pogatetz moved to Russian Giants Spartak Moscow.
At Spartak Moscow Emanuel Pogatetz and Nemanja Vidic formed a formidable Partnership at the heart of defence.
One of the Highlights during the Season was definitely the 5:1 win at home against arch rivals Dynamo Moscow at the Luschniki Stadium.
07/2005 - 06/2010
On 01.07.2005 Emanuel Pogatetz completed a permanent move from Bayer 04 Leverkusen to English Premier League side FC Middlesbrough for a transfer fee of 2.71 Million Euros.
He signed a 5 Year Deal at the north-east Club.
Straight away he could gain a spot in the starting Eleven and from now on he was able to compete in the best football League of the World week by week.
07/2010 - 06/2012
At the start of the 2010/2011 season Emanuel Pogatetz moved on a free-transfer from FC Middlesbrough to Hannover 96.
Jörg Schmadtke, the Director of Football, again proved his excellent football-knowledge with this Transfer.
Nearly relegated the Saison before, Emanuel Pogatetz guided Hannover 96 straight away into the heights of the Bundesliga and also into the Europa League.
07/2012 - 01/2013
At the start of the 2012/2013 season Emanuel Pogatetz moved for a free-transfer of 2.5 Million Euros from Hannover 96 to Vfl Wolfsburg.
Whilst Star-Coach Felix Magath was in charge, he was part of the starting eleven at every single game.
01/2013 - 06/2013
In January 2013 Emanuel Pogatetz moved on loan from Vfl Wolfsburg to English Premier League side West Ham United.
Because the traditional English Club had at the time a few defenders out injured, they decided to bolster their squad with Emanuel Pogatetz on a short-term basis.
However the injured defenders recovered quicker than first thought and Emanuel Pogatetz was only used as a Substitute.
07/2013 - 06/2014
At the start of the 2013/2014 Season Emanuel Pogatetz moved permanently from Vfl Wolfsburg to the traditional Club 1.FC Nuremberg.
Although Emanuel Pogatetz was doing his Best for 1.FC Nuremberg he could not prevent them from being relegated. In the 12 Round of the Bundesliga Season Emanuel Pogatetz played without face-protection with a broken eye-socket and a broken cheek-bone in the game away at Borussia Moenchengladbach.
He suffered the injuries in Training one day before the game.
07/2014 - 01/2016
In August 2014 Emanuel Pogatetz joined Major League Soccer club Columbus Crew on a free transfer.
The Crew is based in Columbus, Ohio and is the most traditional soccer club in the USA.
The Crew reached the MLS-Cup Playoffs for the first time since 2010 during Emanuel Pogatetz debut season.
During the Winter Break of the 2015/2016 Bundesliga Season Emanuel Pogatetz joined the German Club 1. FC Union Berlin.
The Club from Eastern Germany (DDR), nicknamed “Die Eisernen” (the irons), plays at the moment in the second German Bundesliga.
So far Emanuel Pogatetz has been a regular starter for the Club.
Emanuel Pogatetz played for every team at every age group at the Austrian National Football Association. He played 41 Games (41-Times in the starting-eleven) for the Youth-Teams and 60 Games (59-Times in the starting-elven) for the Senior National Team
He made his Debut for the Austrian National Team on 18.05.2002 at the age of 19, when coming on as a substitute in the away game against Germany.
In the All-Time-Statistics of Appearances for the National Team he is at the Moment on place 15.
