With a bit of Federico Higuain magic and another brace from the league's-leading goalscorer in Kei Kamara, Columbus Crew SC made a statement to MLS with a 3-2 win over the Seattle Sounders at MAPFRE Stadium.

Sounders head coach Sigi Schmid told reporters Friday that he expected a wide-open affair, and the players seemed to have the same kind of match in mind. For much of the match, space was easy to come by, especially for Columbus on the flanks.

D.C. United vs. Columbus Crew SC

 

D.C. United and Columbus Crew SC met at RFK Stadium on Saturday evening with first-place United riding a 15-game home unbeaten run (across all competitions) and fourth-place Columbus riding a pair of resounding victories over New England and Houston.

D.C.’s streak continued, while Columbus’ would end. First-half strikes from Fabian Espindola and Sean Franklin would be enough for United, who cruised to a 2-0 victory at RFK Stadium.

Columbus Crew SC made quick work of the Philadelphia Union at MAPFRE Stadium on Saturday night with a three-goal barrage in the first 45 minutes on the way to a 4-1 rout of the visitors.

Kei Kamara continued his MVP-caliber start to the 2015 season with a goal and an assist, while Ethan Finlay returned to his 2014 form with two goals and an assist of his own in a night spent terrorizing the Union defense.

For the second time in three home games, Columbus Crew SC benefitted from a red card and dominated a ten-man Orlando City SC side 3-0 in Columbus Saturday night.

Emanuel Pogatetz commanded the Crew defense to their 3rd clean sheet out of 6 games, making them the best defense in the MLS 2015 season so far.

Usual suspects Federico Higuain, Kei Kamara, Justin Meram and Ethan Finlay combined for Crew SC's offensive explosion, while Orlando couldn't find their footing in attack.
