Spartak Moscow

In the last Minute of the Russian Winter-Transfer-Window 2005 Emanuel Pogatetz moved to Russian Giants Spartak Moscow.

Emanuel Pogatetz was the first Austrian ever to play in Russia and for a Russian football club.

The Loan move turned out to be very difficult, because the Russian Club could only reach an agreement on the last day of the Russian Winter-Transfer-Winter with Emanuel Pogatetz, his current Club GAK and his actual club Bayer 04 Leverkusen.

There was still the necessary Medical Check to be done on time, so Emanuel Pogatetz had to travel to Moscow immediately. The spontaneous journey led him from Graz through Prag to Moscow. At Moscow he was handed a provisional Visa by the Russian secret service while still on the Private-Jet of Spartak Moscow. Now he was able to legally enter Russian territory. After he passed the Medical Check and signed all necessary Documents on time, Emanuel Pogatetz was finally an official Player of Spartak Moscow.

At Spartak Moscow Emanuel Pogatetz and Nemanja Vidic formed a formidable Partnership at the heart of defence. Together with other stars like Igor Titov or Roman Pavlyuchenko he led the foundation for Spartak Moscow to return to the Champions League.

One of the Highlights during the Season was definitely the 5:1 win at home against arch rivals Dynamo Moscow at the Luschniki Stadium.
