Hannover 96

After he could not reach an agreement with FC Middlesbrough to extend his contract, the Director of football of Hannover 96, Jörg Schmadtke, signed Emanuel Pogatetz on a free transfer and handed him a 3 year deal at the German Bundesliga Club (highest Division in German Football).

Jörg Schmadtke again proved his excellent football-knowledge with this Transfer.

Nearly relegated the Saison before, Emanuel Pogatetz guided Hannover 96 straight away into the heights of the Bundesliga and also into the Europa League. He also transformed the worst defence of the Bundesliga into one of the Best. After Hannover 96 became nearly impossible to beat at their home stadium they achieved the fourth spot in the 2010/2011 Bundesliga Season and hardly missed out on the qualification for the Champions League.

Also in his second season with Hannover 96 Emanuel Pogatetz qualified for international football through the Bundesliga.

The highlights of the 2011/2012 season were however the games in the Europa League, wherefore Hannover 96 sensationally qualified in the last round of qualification against FC Sevilla.

Emanuel Pogatetz and his team only got beat by future Europa League and Champions League Winners Atletico Madrid, reaching the quarter finals of the tournament.

To some extend up to 15.000 Hannover 96 Fans travelled to the away games in the Europa League to support their team.

During January 2012 Emanuel Pogatetz signed a contract extension at Hannover 96 for another 2 Years.
