FC Aarau

Bayer 04 Leverkusen wanted Emanuel Pogatetz to play more regular first-team football and therefor send him on loan to the Swiss Super League Club FC Aarau (highest division in Switzerland).

At the Swiss Club he established himself straight away as an indisputable regular player of the first team and played a vital part in FC Aarau avoiding relegation. To earn the right to stay in the league FC Aaarau had to take a detour via the " Auf/Absiegsrunde", where they managed to win the first spot, which entitled them to stay in the Swiss Super League.

For Emanuel Pogatetz the time at FC Aarau was not only important because of all the experience he could gain through regular first-team football, it also was very useful in terms of learning to perform despite adverse conditions.

At this Moment in time FC Aarau underwent a very tough financial time and was very close to bankruptcy. Partly it was only possible to keep the club running because fellow-travellers of the club like Otmar Hitzfeld were donating money.

Because of the bad financial Situation the fact that Bayer Leverkusen loaned Emanuel Pogatetz at no charge to FC Aarau was very welcomed by Club and Fans alike. If Bayer Leverkusen would have not done so it would have not been possible for the Swiss Club to sign a player in his range.
