In August 2014 Emanuel Pogatetz joined Major League Soccer club Columbus Crew SC on a free transfer and signed a 3 year deal (Optional), after Columbus Crew Head Coach Gregg Berhalter pursued him throughout the European 2014 summer-transfer window.
The Crew is based in Columbus, Ohio and is the most traditional soccer club in the USA. It is one of the ten charter clubs of MLS, having competed in the league since its inception.
The Home-games are played in the Crew Stadium In Google Maps anzeigen , the first soccer-specific stadium in the United States.
Because one season in the Major League Soccer is played throughout a calendar year, Emanuel Pogatetz joined the Columbus Crew near the end of the 2014 season.
The Crew reached the MLS-Cup Playoffs for the first time since 2010 during Emanuel Pogatetz debut season.
At the start of the 2015 MLS season Emanuel Pogatetz was a regular starter for his club, leading the Crew into a comfortable Play-Off Position.
Trying to play through a nasty toe injury he lost his place in the starting lineup towards the end of the season and therefore he did not feature in the MLS Cup Final loss to the Portland Timbers.
This was only the second time in history the Columbus Crew SC reached the MLS Cup Finals.
After a disappointing last quarter of the season for Emanuel Pogatetz the decision was made not to pick up the option and to leave the Columbus Crew SC and the MLS at the end of the year. In the end the philosophy of the Club and the player where to different to allow a successful relationship and therefore both parties reached an agreement to not pick up the option and Emanuel Pogatetz was allowed to leave on a free transfer at the end of 2015.
